A Week in Pictures 14/03/16

This week was a preeetty good week. For the first week in a long time I feel like I’ve actually got some stuff worth blogging about *high five*!

There’s been eating out again, cocktails again, some new purchases and OMG new hair. Life is goooood.

Taco Tuesday:

This is the best way to spend a Tuesday. Definitely. Went back to Benson Blakes in Bury St Edmunds because it’s closing soon-ish which is seriously depressing, so we needed to get in at least one more Taco Tuesday. And it did not disappoint. Probably ate far too much for a Tuesday evening but it was totes worth it. And 2 cocktails on a school night? I’m so hardcore.

Hello Victoria’s Secret:

Victoria’s Secret has opened in Cambridge. I repeat, Victoria’s Secret has opened in Cambridge. Major excitement went through work on the opening day and we all popped over for a cheeky look in our lunch breaks. I bought some very pretty new underwear (5 for £20 = bargain) and with every purchase you got a free Victoria’s Secret Dog ❤ and a gift card. The gift card is exciting as each one has a minimum of £10 loaded onto it, but it could have up to £500. From the 29th March you go back and they tell you how much is on it. Can’t bloody wait.

Dark Hair Don’t Care:

For years I had light blonde hair, then about a year and a half a go I took a massive step and went a bit darker. And I was extremely scared when I did so. Now I’m so over worrying about my hair colour. I simply rock up and my friends house and she does something. Obviously she doesn’t just go crazy and she is a hair dresser so it’s all fine. But this time I went the darkest I’ve been, and it’s broken up with a few highlights and low lights. And it’s my favourite colour I’ve ever had on my hair.

Thanks to the beauts over at O2, I got a free packet of Propercorn on O2 Priority. Fancy flavours of popcorn have always looked good but I’ve always been a bit unsure. I went for Coconut and Vanilla and OMG it’s delish. Anyone who knows me knowns I’m a huge coconut fan, and this is just perfecto. I’m a changed woman.

Parents Pub Lunch:

Sunday was spent eating cake, then going for a late pub lunch with my parents in a pub in the middle of no-where over-looking a river. Very cute. Can’t wait to go in the summer when you can sit outside. We then went home and I spent the evening sitting in a food coma.

Avon Make-Up Haul

Now I’m going to be honest here. Avon make-up has never been something I’d go crazy over. Don’t get me wrong I’ve used and liked a couple of their products, such as their eyebrow powder and wax and a couple of their mascaras, but other than that I’ve always thought it could be better. I’ve never found it to have the same staying power as some other brands.

But when I saw their adverts for the new Perfectly Matte lipsticks, boasting ‘Matter than Mac’ I was like, girl gotta give this a try.

There was a pretty wide range of colours to choose from, and I settled on Au Naturale which is a natural nude, and Superb Wine which is a deep purple red as these were both similar to shades I’d been thinking of buying from MAC.

When I ordered mine there was actually an offer on the lipsticks so they were only £5.50 each (normal price will be £8.00), and there was another offer alongside this where if you spent you over £10 on make-up you got some free gifts. Basically, A LOT of make up for your money.  So I’m gonna do a little review of each product but spolier alert, I was pleasantly surprised.

Perfectly Matte Lipsticks

As mentioned above I ordered Au Naturale and Superb Wine. I tried Au Naturale first for a day at work as it’s more of a daytime colour. I’d defo say it has equal matte-ness to my Mac lipsticks, so I’m pretty impressed so far. As the day went on it did dry out and lose a bit of colour on the inside of my lips. But I had drunk about 3 cups of tea, water and eaten my lunch. So not bad. My Mac ones do this a bit anyway so I wasn’t really complaining at all! A quick top up and it wouldn’t be too bad, or a quick dab of lip balm should solve it. I’ve only tried the Superb Wine to test the colour out so far, and it’s a really deep, dark colour. I’ll defo be giving this a whirl next time I go out out.

I’ll give these a 7.5/10.

True Colour Eyeshadow in Warm Cashmere

I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting much from this. But I have really been proved wrong. The colours are exactly my type for every day, a lightly pinky gold and a slightly darker pinky gold. Admittedly, I did use my Urban Decay brush from my Naked Palette and my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer and it lasted all day! Not a crease in sight! Pretty sure it’s going to be my new work make-up staple. I’ll save the posh stuff for night time.

I’ll give this a 9/10

Liquid Eyeliner in Black:

I feel as though I was supposed to get brown but I actually ended up with a black one. It was sightly fiddly on my first try to get it straight as I’m not a top eyeliner pro, but once I’d got it right it looked really good. Again I’d used my primer, but it also stayed put all day!dodnt print below my brow once. Winner winner.

I’ll give this an 8/10

Nail Varnish:

I haven’t actually tried this specific colour yet, I got naked truth, but I think nail varnish is nail varnish. And other Avon ones I’ve used have been as good as any. The colour is lush though. I love it. Can’t wait to give it a try. I always use my Sech Vitte top coat to quick dry my nails and it seems to give them a more hard-wearing coat.

I’ll give this an 8/10

So all in all I’m pretty happy! All of the above was for £11.00 because of the offers. And you can’t grumble at that. Seems as though Avon have made some improvements to their products since I’ve last tried any, and I do think I’ll re-but some of these. Happy Charlotte.

A Week in Pictures 07/03/2016

Life’s hard when you’re trying to save money isn’t it? I wish I could fill this post with a load of exciting things I’ve done over the last week, however I’ve been pretty tame and boring. There’s no fancy meals out or cocktails or champers with the girls. Growing up and being sensible sucks. There is a cheeky new bag though ❤

Work Treats:

Now this just had to be included in this weeks round up because look… It’s ridiculous. We had a stressful day one day, so the next day everyone turned up with treats without realising everyone else had brought treats in. It was unreal. The bad part of it is, most of this went within a day or two 😐 #awks

JUST LOOK AT IT. I’m honestly in love with this bag. I had a voucher for John Lewis so it hasn’t even affected my poor bank balance at all, and basically means I got a free DKNY bag, right?  Probs could have bought some kind of essential item with the voucher instead, but the shopaholic in me won. It IS very practical as It’s a lot bigger than it looks, and I can fit my purse, hair brush, sunglasses, some make-up, my keys and my phone in it comfortably.

Beaut Sunday Weather:

Wasn’t Sunday just lush? The sun was out, there was hardly any breeze which made it feel warm, and not a drop of rain in sight. Perfect weather for a walk and quick stop off in the pub beer garden. But it’s majorly made me desperate for summer. Seriously, where the Pimms and BBQs at???

Birchbox Time Already!?

Can someone please explain to me how we’re in MARCH already and it’s time for me to write another Birchbox post? Like, surely it’s only about 2 weeks since the last one? This year is going crazily fast. Slow down 2k16 I ain’t ready.

So far for each Birchbox post I feel as though I keep banging on about how good each box is. But seriously, does anyone else agree that they’ve upped their game from last year? I mean, I liked it as a whole last year obviously, or else I wouldn’t continue getting them. But this year they all keep impressing me. Keep it up, Birchbox!

But let’s get down to it, here’s what I got:

ModelCo More Brows:

When I opened the box I was SUPER excited to see this. Not that I’d heard of the product or brand before, but I’ve been considering buying the Wunderbrow stuff I keep seeing all over social media and this looked kinda similar. I got it in medium/dark which I think is slightly too dark for me. But I still really like it! I’m still perfecting my technique, and the colour isn’t that off that I wont use it. I genuinely think I’m going to buy this, just probably in a medium shade if they do it. It looks really natural, and I still use my Kiko Eyebrow Marker first, then just finish off with this.

Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm:

Well wasn’t this a nice surprise! I thought it was gonna be a normal lip balm with just a hint of pink. But the colour is actually a really strong, well lasting colour! And it’s really good at moisturising your lips. All round winner. Oh, and it’s a full size item which it just ❤

Philip B Straightening Baume:

I’ve only tested this once, on the only day I actually fully blow dried and straightened my hair (coz nobody got time for that everyday). But I did notice a difference. My hair just looked a bit glossier and sleeker. Not its usual frizzy, wavy self. So pretty good if you ask me. I just wish it smelled really lush, as it doesn’t seem to smell of much?

The Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray:

I have used this every night since I got it and I love it! I’m a really rubbish, light sleeper, and it has actually made me have some really good nights sleeps. One night it still did take me a little while to drift off, but once I’m asleep I’m actually out instead of waking up like 5 times in one night.

Whish Shave Cream:

As with most Whish products, this smells amazing! Its coconut flavour. It’s not a foam so it does leave your skin feeling soft and smooth instead of drying it out slightly. It’s a bit like you’re shaving with moisturiser, but that’s why it makes your skin feel so good.

Indeed Moisture Boosting Mask:

I haven’t tried this yet but I’m saving it for a special occasion. Might use it before my weekend in London when I go and see The Woman in Black with Pete. It seems like it will be really effective and fancy.

A Week in Pictures 29/02/16

This ‘Week in Pictures’ is a bit meh. I didn’t get up to as many small things so it’s a tad short and sweet this time round. Sorry guys, life’s not always exciting. I’ll try harder this week *promise*

Tuesday Cinema Date

Tuesday night Pete and I had a little date night to the cinema. We saw Grimsby which I think I liked but I’m sure? I defo laughed. And cringed. But anyway, the highlight was trying out the new Vue chairs and OMG they are amazing. You can almost lay down, have a lap tray for all your food and basically feel like you’re at home in your bedroom. And for dinner I had a Ben & Jerries core sundae which was yum.

Hot Chocolate and Cake

No week is complete without a little trip to a coffee shop, and last weeks lucky winner was Starbucks. You NEED to try their hot chocolate made with coconut milk. It basically tastes like a bounty. Uh huh. Thank me later.

Saturday Night Vibes

Last but definitely not least, Saturday night was spent these beautiful people. We ate food and drank wine and had an all round good evening. And I didn’t even have a wine  headache the next day! So not a single bad thing about the evening.

A Week in Pictures 22/02/16

I’ve been rubbish with this post again this week. I started it, then got distracted with another post. Got my days muddled. Then oh look it’s Thursday and I’m only just writing up what happened last week. My bad.

As per the normal trend it’s pretty much made up of food and eating out, which is great for me and not so great for my beach body.

You may have read my whole post on this already (if you haven’t, you should!), but it really deserves another mention. It was so nice to get try lots of different and fancy foods, and to tell people I’m classy enough to go to a Michelin Star restaurant, obvs. So posh.

Scenic Lunch Break

The last couple of weeks I’ve had to work in Ely a couple of times instead of Cambridge. I used to work in Ely a few years a go so it’s been quite nice to be back, even if it is a lot smaller and quieter. It’s a cute little city famous for it’s Cathedral, and I had a little wander around it’s grounds on one of my lunch breaks to add a bit of culture to the day.

Afternoon Tea

And being in Ely reminded me of some of the pretty little places you can go. So Pete and I went for afternoon tea at Peacocks Tearoom. It’s right by the river and all the crockery is mis-matched so it’s literally the cutest place ever. The lemon and lavender cake was unreal! We may have had our afternoon tea at approx. 11:30am but we were starving! Don’t judge.

New Bag

How cute is this bag!? I got it from Dorothy Perkins and it’s only £28. The handles are a really good length, it’s big enough to fit like everything I need for work in it including my lunch, and it has a pom-pom. Winning. I also think it looks a lot more expensive than a Dorothy Perkins bag which is always a perk.

Pizza with the Girls

The week finished off nicely with a trip to Prezzo with the girls on Sunday evening for a couple of wines, a gossip and; of course, pizza. It may have left me a tad tired for the Monday morning start but it was defo worth it 🙂

Tips to be a Top Saver

As you may or may not know, I’m now trying to be really really good at saving money. I’d love to move out and the sooner that becomes possible the better. I’d say at the moment I’m an average saver. I save a lot more than some of my friends, but nowhere near as much as some others. Completely slap bang in the middle. So from this pay day onwards I’m going to try and seriously up my game, and I’ve come up with several ideas to try and make this happen.

I think working in the finance industry does make me more aware of saving and how much you do actually need to move out etc, so I really need to make a conscious effort to start saving as much as possible because man, life is expensive!

  1. Make a Spreadsheet

I’ve made myself a simple spreadsheet on Excel coz I’m a proper, boring adult. It’s nothing fancy as I literally only know the basics of Excel, so it’s something that anyone can make. Each month I’m gonna put in the exact amount I got paid, and then it’s going to take away from that balance whatever I spend. I’ve made categories such as petrol, insurance etc. Stuff you HAVE to spend your money on each month. Then for clothes/beauty, I’m giving myself an allowance. And then after all these things it tells me how much I have left completely free. So I should be able to budget much better. Hopefully.

2. Cut out the Crap

Basically, stop wasting money on shit. I don’t need a hot drink from Costa, we have a kettle at work. I’m not really starving so I don’t need extra food at lunch. If I pop to the pub on a week night I don’t always need one glass of wine. If I ain’t getting drunk I’ll be having a soft drink. These sound so little but all these things add up and over a month I reckon I can probably save myself a good £50.

3. Eat Out Less

This is defo gonna be the hardest for me. I LOVE a meal out. Since pay-day I’ve already eaten out once and had an afternoon tea. But from now on that’s it, I’m going to be strong. It is so hard as Pete and I love eating out, and so do all my friends. But unless there’s an actual reason I ‘m going to turn down any offers. Once a month should do just fine.

4. Everything in One Go

By  this I mean, try and get everything that HAS to come out of your account to come out on your actual pay day, or as close to it as possible. I move a certain amount of money straight into my savings as soon as I get paid. Give my parents their rent money. Fill up my car with petrol. The list goes on. I’m slowly arranging for bills to come out the day after my pay day now instead of random days in the month. You may have to do this as and when you renew things (such as when your phone contract runs out) to avoid any admin charges. It means what your left with is basically good to use.

5. Be Strict

I am getting a lot better at this, but I need to actually think things through before buying them. No impulsive clothes buys! I’m really going to try and not buy something when I first see it, and then if I still want it after around a week then I’ll get it.

6. Bring Back the Piggy Bank

I’m going to be chucking any loose change into my piggy back and every couple of months I’ll empty it and pay it straight into my savings. Again, this is a really small step but every little helps, and combined with everything else it should start making a huge difference!

7. Learn to Say No

I’m seriously terrible for getting FOMO. I hate the thought that everyone’s out doing something and I’m not. And I also really dislike having to say no to things. But I need to learn that if I don’t go to every trip to the pub, or every night out, or every meal out, that my friends aren’t going to stop being my friends or hate me for it. If other people say no it’s fine, so it’s fine for me to say no as well sometimes. A night in with  my colouring book is just as good sometimes. And also a major sign of getting old 😐 brill!
